Hi Mates,

How’s it going?

Today I bring you an informal letter and a book review, all in one. As you probably know, a letter and a book review, are very important at the language school. So, I will show you a good example.

I hope you find it interesting.

Task.

A friend in England asked you for advice on what book to read. Write an email giving advice based on your experience. Including details of the author and the book.

And this could well be an example…

Hi Peter!

How are you? I’m glad to hear from you. Lately, I’ve been studying a lot and I couldn’t call you.

Concerning your email, I started reading a novel and couldn’t put it down until the last page. It was a massive shock for me. That novel was The Lord of the Rings.

“The Lord of the Rings” is an epic high-fantasy novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien, the most famous writer of high fantasy fiction. Tolkien went on to create a story about a short, furry-footed, creature called Hobbit.

“The Lord of the Rings” is set in Middle-Earth and the story talks about the Dark Lord Sauron, who is seeking “The Ring”. But the Ring has found its way to the young hobbit Frodo and the fate of the Middle-Earth depends on him. It is then when, Frodo begins his journey to the Mount Doom in the Land of Mordor, the only place where “The Ring” can be destroyed.

This amazing book belongs to a complex saga about a fantasy world. The consistency of the created world is unparalleled in modern fiction. In fact, it is clearly a timeless masterpiece which made it a classic from day one.

“The Lord of the Rings” is terrific entertainment. Although the book is a bit slow in places, the story is narrated in an absolutely brilliant way. I highly recommend it to everyone.

So, Peter, don’t hesitate and read it, you’ll love it!
